Jointers Tool Kits for Live Working, Linking and Jointing LV Cables

Cable Jointing Tools

Insulated tools have been designed to protect the user against injury in the event that they should make contact with an energised source. Each insulated tool must be safety-marked with the year of insulation as well as an official 1000-volt rating symbol, which ensures protection for live use up to 1,000 VAC or 1,500 VDC. They also must comply with the international standard IEC EN 60900.

The tools are identified by the mark: 1000V or double triangle IEC EN 60900 with the name of the manufacturer, tool reference and the year of manufacture. There are strict international standards that apply to insulated tools and can be identified by the double triangle symbol that is engraved onto every tool.

Insulated tools are very important when conducting any electrical work which needs to be completed on a live circuit (or “hot”). They offer remarkable protection in situations where it may not always be possible to disconnect the circuit first, for example when working on a railway line which needs to remain active.

These tools are also very useful for unexpected situations when you may not be aware that you are working on a live circuit. Without tools which are insulated, you could be risking serious injury, liability or even death.

Insulated Cable Cutters

Insulated Battery Hydraulic Cutting Tool

The Klauke ES32SISML-WSH is a battery powered cable cutting tool with a maximum cutting range of 32mm suitable for use with copper and aluminium conductors up to 300sqmm. The Klauke ES32SISML has a slim cutting head for Jointers working in substations, switchgear and trenches with confined spaces – the insulated cable cutters provide advanced worker and electrical protection to utility contractors working live in the vicinity of energised Mains and Service cables up to 1000V.

Klauke cutting tools are available with 10.8V DeWalt Li-Ion Batteries and are fully insulated to the electrical requirements of IEC 60900.

Designed specifically for LV Cable Jointers, the ES32SIS-WSH features a shortened blade profile, minimizing the risk of accidental contact with an adjacent phase during cable cutting and jointing operations. The redesigned blade pivot point ensures maximum cutting leverage, allowing for the efficient cutting of single-core stranded copper and solid aluminium cables up to 300sqmm – lightweight, compact and providing ultimate electrical safety when cutting and working on LV networks and cables prior to Jointing or Terminating.

Insulated Tools

Insulated hand tools are a comprehensive range of hand tools designed with insulating materials to protect LV Jointers against electrical shock – the  tools are commonly used in electrical and electronic work where the risk of exposure to live electrical components exists. The insulation on the handles acts as a barrier, preventing the flow of electrical current from the live components to the person using the tool. Here are some common types of insulated hand tools and their applications:

  1. Insulated Screwdrivers
    • Used for turning screws and fasteners in electrical panels, switchgear, and other applications. The insulated handles protect users from electrical shock when working with live circuits.
  2. Insulated Pliers
    • Designed for gripping, cutting, and bending wires in electrical work. The insulated handles protect against electrical shock when handling live wires.
  3. Insulated Adjustable Wrenches
    • Used for tightening or loosening nuts and bolts in electrical and mechanical applications. The insulated handles ensure safety when working in proximity to live electrical components.
  4. Insulated Nut Drivers
    • Similar to insulated screwdrivers but designed specifically for turning nuts. These tools are used in various electrical and assembly tasks.
  5. Insulated Wire Strippers
    • Designed to strip the insulation from electrical wires without exposing the user to the risk of electrical shock. They are commonly used in electrical installations and maintenance.
  6. Insulated Sockets and Ratchets
    • Used for turning nuts and bolts in electrical panels and other applications. The insulation on the handles provides protection when working near live electrical components.
  7. Insulated Cable Cutters
    • Designed for cutting electrical cables without the risk of electrical shock. They are commonly used in the electrical and telecommunications industries.
  8. Insulated Torque Wrenches
    • Used for applying a specific amount of torque to bolts in electrical and mechanical applications. The insulated handles ensure user safety when working near live electrical components.
  9. Insulated Hex Keys (Allen Keys)
    • Used for turning hexagonal socket screws in electrical and electronic equipment. The insulated handles provide protection when working on live circuits.
  10. Insulated Tape Measures
    • Tape measures with insulated handles are used in electrical installations where accurate measurements are needed, and there is a risk of exposure to live electrical components.
