SEANEX is a dry pluggable inner cone connection and contact system especially for renewable energy and offshore high voltage power systems up to 72.5kV – based on PFISTERER CONNEX system for voltages of up to 550kV the SEANEX components have been further developed for the offshore installation and lifetime performance certified by DNV GL and compliant with the new offshore standard IEC 63026.

IEC 63026:2019 specifies test methods and requirements for power cable systems, cables with extruded insulation and their accessories for fixed submarine installations, for rated voltages from 6 kV (Um = 7,2 kV) up to 60 kV (Um = 72,5 kV). The IEC 63026 document includes the electrical tests and the physical tests on materials and components as well as the specific mechanical tests that are applicable to submarine cable systems.

With SEANEX, PFISTERER offers a robust inner cone High Voltage Cable Connection system for 66kV offshore applications – in addition, the CONNEX system can be used to implement connections and links up to 550kV which are submersible and saltwater resistant without affecting their service life.

Connection Joint Advantages Using Seanex

The cast resin connection joint in the SEANEX system enables rapid connection of the wind turbine to the wind farm network. All that is required offshore is to fit the high voltage pluggable connectors to the inter-array cables. The attachment of the cable joint system using four screws can be carried out on land by the Jointers. All cable sections between the joint and electrical switchgear and between switchgear and transformer are supplied preassembled, pretested and ready to plug in. There is no longer any need to test these preassembled cables offshore.

Why SEANEX?

Everyone involved puts a lot of effort into the construction of offshore wind farms. According to this, electricity generation and distribution must be guaranteed for at least 25 years. The electrical systems in modern offshore wind farms work with 66kV high voltage – and the trend is rising. The connection and connection of the electrical systems is only a small but essential part compared to the construction of the wind farm. The high voltage power supply from offshore wind farms can only be guaranteed with reliable interfaces. Nevertheless, some operators rely on medium-voltage connection technology at these sensitive interfaces – not without risk.

Separation of Electrical & Mechanical ContactSEANEX

Compared to other connection solutions, SEANEX is the much more robust system. Electrical and mechanical contact are independent of each other. The proven lamella contact and the spring system guarantee reliable power transmission – even with sudden changes in load. During assembly, the SEANEX plugs are simply plugged into the associated sockets and sleeves and fixed with three screws. The rotatable flange bell allows 360° mounting.

Advantage connection sleeve

The cast resin connection sleeve of the SEANEX system enables the wind turbine to be quickly connected to the wind farm network. Offshore, only the plugs have to be mounted on the offshore cables. The sleeves can be fastened with four screws on land. All cable sections between the sleeve and the switchgear as well as the switchgear and transformer are pre-assembled, pre-tested and delivered ready to plug in. These pre-assembled cables no longer have to be tested offshore.
