Automatic Tensioning System for Rail Systems

  • uploaded by Chris Dodds | Thorne & Derrick Sales & Marketing Manager

PFISTERER TENSOREX C+ is an automatic tensioning system that uses the force of a coil spring to constantly tension the railway catenary and/or bearer cable.

The TENSOREX C+ is a patented spring automatic tensioning system which has been installed on many worldwide prestigious rail and tramway systems. It therefore effectively compensates the expansion caused by fluctuating daytime and night-time temperatures as well as the change in the seasons while keeping the tension at a constant level.

Applications

  • For railways and tramways
  • Best solution for portals, tunnels and platforms
  • Inner-city installations where low visual impact is requested

Facts

  • Units Sold: 14,000+ (Asia, Africa, Australasia, Europe, North and South America)
  • Compensating Length: 450-1100 mm
  • Line Tension Force: 7.5-40 kN

Mounting solutions available for all applications

Reusable in the event of wire failures

How it Works

By means of a support cable, TENSOREX C+ exerts a constant tension on the contact wire, regardless of any changes in length due to temperature. The special spiral spring is firmly connected to two cams on the same shaft. The degree of rotation of the shaft results in a linear variable torque/moment, which is compensated for by the combination with the variable radius of the cam.

This produces a constant pulling force over the entire device working range.

PFISTERER TENSOREX C+ | How it works?

FContact wire = f (M/r) = const.

F
Contact wire >> Force on contact line
MSpring >> Torque/moment applied by spring (variable on linear basis)
rPulley >> Radius of cam (variable)
lWork >> Device working range correspond to variable pulley profile length
