33kV 36kV Cold Shrink Cable Joints For MV HV Cables – Nexans 36CSJ

Nexans 36CSJ is a cold shrink cable joint suitable for jointing MV HV single core polymeric cable with copper wire screen to be laid in air or directly buried underground – conductor material copper or aluminium with a maximum operating voltage of 36kV. The single core cold-shrinkable straight joint with connector is fully screened and fully submersible.

All the joint bodies of the Nexans 36CSJ range are tested for AC withstand prior to leaving the factory and meet the requirements of CENELEC HD 629.1.

Example:

The copper wire screened cable is 36 kV, 150 mm² stranded aluminium with a diameter over core insulation of 32.1 mm. Order a 36CSJ-2/M95.240-45 cold-shrinkable joint kit.

NEXANS 36CSJ COLD SHRINK CABLE JOINT CABLE PREPARATION

1. The cables should be free and cleaned over the area indicated in the diagram

2. Remove the outer sheaths for a distance of 235 mm from cable ends

3. Wrap the self-adhesive copper tapes around the outer sheaths flush with the ends

4. Fold the screen wires back over the copper tapes and cut at length

5. Fold the screen wires back over the copper tapes and secure them with a wrap of adhesive tape to avoid sharp edges. IMPORTANT : the total length of screen connection must not exceed 70 mm

6. Remove the extruded semi-conductive screen to a point 45 mm from the outer sheath

7. Bare the conductors for a distance C + 10 mm. – For connectors with centre wall : C = depth of connector bore; – For connectors without centre wall : C = 1/2 of the crimp connector length

8. Thoroughly clean core insulation

9. Slide the joint assembly over one cable, making sure the end with the cable tie goes first over the cable
