How Does Heat Shrink Work? | Our SPS heat shrink tubing provides electrical insulation, mechanical protection, environmental sealing and strain relief for applications such as cable repair, cable jointing, back-end connector sealing, breakouts and connector-to-cable transitions. When heated by gas torch with naked flame the heat shrinkable tube conforms to the size and shape of the substrate beneath, enabling quick and easy installation.

The high expansion ratio (2:1) makes it possible to repair most damaged cable jackets or sheaths without removing connectors. The heat shrink is available in a wide range of materials, colours and sizes: heat shrink tubing is delivered in forms such as spools, 1.2m lengths and cut tube pieces. Clear tubing types permit inspection of covered cables or components and offer excellent transmittance of light. Where the presence of flammable gas, vapour or dusts in potentially explosive atmospheres preclude the use of heat shrink due to “hot-working” permits we can recommend Cold Shrink tubes for hazardous area locations.
