Lucy Zodion manufacture a wide range of products suitable to provide Low Voltage Electrical Power Distribution for EV charge points – from distribution network operator (DNO) accredited cut-outs and isolators for on-street chargers, to feeder pillars for electrical vehicle charging.

Due to the growing demand for Electric Vehicles (EV) around the world and the resulting strain that the charging infrastructure has on our electrical network, a wide range of safe and compliant electrical power and connection solutions are needed.

EV charge points fall into four main categories according to the charge speed – slow, fast, rapid and super.

There are a number of electrical components required for each of these depending on the specified charge speed.

EV charging points rated as ‘Fast’ usually provide power from 7.4 kW up to 22 kW and can fully charge an Electric Vehicle in under 4 hours. Most often found in retail car parks or on-street where people generally have more time available for vehicle charging.

Common fast electrical power connectors are a tethered Type 1 or a Type 2 socket – these provide electrical charge via a connector cable which is supplied with the vehicle.

Current ‘Rapid’ AC chargers for electric vehicles are rated at 43 kW, while ‘Rapid’ DC units are at least 50 kW.

Lucy Zodion EV supply pillars support both AC and DC charge points and have the scope to allow charging for the majority of electric vehicles up to 80% in up to 60 minutes (dependant on battery capacity).

Rapid AC devices use a tethered Type 2 connector. Rapid DC chargers are fitted with either a CCS, CHAdeMO or Tesla Type 2 connector.

‘Super’ or ultra-fast EV charge points can provide up to 120kW of power. Super EV charging supply solutions from Lucy Zodion feed power to EV charge points at a maximum rated speed.

This allows electric vehicles which have the battery capacity, to have up to 80% of charge in approximately 30 minutes.
