CATU’s MT-8408 is a 12.5kA short circuit & portable earthing kit used with insulating sticks to protect workers against electric shock while carrying out maintenance or repair on MV-HV substations, switchgear, busbars, capacitor units, overhead lines and installation on fixed permanent points.

CATU MT-8408 portable primary earths, commonly referred to as short-circuiting leads, are manufactured from flexible stranded copper conductor shrouded with clear protective insulating material and are used to safely discharge fault current leakages in the event of inadvertent energisation of medium/high voltage power systems.

IEC 61230 is an International Standard applicable to portable equipment, with or without matching connection points, for temporary earthing or earthing and short-circuiting of electrically isolated or de-energized a.c. and d.c. installations, distribution and transmission networks, whether they are overhead or underground or of low or high voltage power systems.

Short Circuit & Portable Earthing Kits

CATU short circuiting earthing kits include 3 earthing clamps for connection to the MV-HV substation/switchgear and another remote clamp at the opposite end of the cable – the earth clamps are connected to 3 x copper flexible insulated cables. Full range of portable earthing lead kits: Circuit Main Earths, Field Earths, Drain Earths, NSI24 Earth Kits and Transmission & Distribution Earthing Lead Kits are available for 132kV, 245kV up to 400kV.

Custom design MV-HV portable earth kits are available, including for 11kV-33kV earthing requirements.
