Nexans JTS cable joints are installed onto MV Medium Voltage power cable systems to connect, repair or extend electricity distribution networks in 11kV 17.5kV 24kV 33kV and 42kV voltage classes – this includes jointing MV cables of single-core and 3-core construction with Paper (PILC) or Polymeric (XLPE EPR) insulation, armoured/unarmoured with copper tape or wire screen and stranded copper or aluminium type conductors.
The Nexans 36-42JTS1 W heat shrinkable MV straight joints are designed for unarmoured, plastic insulated cables with copper wire or copper tape screen, to accommodate either crimped or mechanical connectors up to Umax 42kV cables and 25-1200sqmm conductors.
The JTS cable joints form part of the Nexans range of HV joints and terminations offering a choice of conductor core connection : deep indent crimping, hexagonal restraint or shearbolt connectors and the choice of the material technologies : cold applied or heat shrinkable.

Single Heat Shrink Tube with Triple Function
Traditionally, heat shrink joints required several separate stages for the installation of the complete cable joint with multiple layers of heat shrink tubes needed to provide stress control, insulation and conductive functions – the labour intensive jointing procedure introduced increased risks of jointer error including tube misalignment and flamework deficiencies (scorching of tubes by overheating). The Triple Wall design of the JTS Cable Joint reduces installation times with corresponding labour savings.
The triple extruded heat shrink tube with integrated stress control provides compact installation with reduced components and excellent water sealing for direct burial into underground cable trench.

36-42JTS MV heat shrink joint is the new high performance, compact and easy to install joint by Nexans for underground (cable trench direct burial in cable duct), or in air (cable tunnels and substation basement located to cable tray/ladder) applications. A single cable joint body with all the electrical functions integrated – Nexans 36-42JTS is an integrated stress control field, insulating and conductive heat shrink tube, which can withstand high voltage applications for application up to 42kV cables.
A double layer pad with conductive rubber inside and HK orange mastic outside ensure a Faraday cage and smooth the effect of the electrical field and of the voltage gradient in the connector area of the heat shrink joint – joints should only ever by installed by a Competent & Trained Jointer using approved cable jointing tools such as Alroc.
The electrical continuity of the cable screen is ensured by the cable jointer installing a tinned copper stocking with constant force springs in case of copper wire/tape screen (CS type) or with a standard tinned copper tape plus an earthing ferrule in case of only copper wire screen (W type).
The outer sheath or cable jacket of the medium voltage cable is restored with heavy wall adhesive lined tubing. Conductors can be connected using crimp splices and tools from Cembre – MC types of cable joint are supplied with Nexans GPH mechanical connectors.
