MV HV Cable Straightening 66kV 132kV | Suitable for Onshore & Offshore Cable Installations

Thorne & Derrick’s range of Cable Heating Blankets & Cable Straighteners are used to provide electric surface heating to the cable outersheath and XLPE insulation of medium/high voltage power cables prior to the installation of MV HV Joints, Terminations & Connectors. We are able to supply a complete range of cable heating blankets that can safely and consistently heat MV & HV cables with an adjustable digital temperature up to 120°C.

The cable heating jackets, distributed by Thorne & Derrick, are simply placed around the cable, wrapped and strapped using adjustable side tethers. The cable heaters are used in conjunction with 2 metre length aluminium cable straightening rails (weight 9.5kg) to retain and support the high voltage cables ducting application of heat.

Heating jackets can be used on Extra High Voltage and High voltage Power Cables (33kV 66kV 132kV 275kV), with its primary purpose to straighten the lines prior to connection providing a durable heating performance for the power utility and renewable energy sectors.

The cable heating jackets provide a solution to the need for a heat treatment process to be applied to each cable core to relieve the mechanical stresses that are locked into the cable insulation – this eliminates the behaviour inclination of the cable to recoil as the heat allows physical cable manipulation and straightening by the HV Jointer.

Manufactured from high quality protective materials the cable heater jackets are suitable for offshore and onshore environments.

Drum heaters provide consistent and stable electric surface heating to oil drums for EHV cable termination installations. The drum heating jacket is applied around the oil drum (silicone oil) and heated to a temperature between 105 – 115 degrees Celsius. This is done firstly and most importantly to ensure there is no moisture in the oil and secondly to make the oil thinner so it can be pumped into the high voltage cable termination. Once the oil has reached a temperature exceeding 105 degrees Celsius the cable jointer can check with a flash light the condition of the oil.
