Cable Spiker – Accles & Shelvoke ACVOKE Spiking Tool LV MV HV (Cartridge)
Cable Spiking Tools
ACVOKE Standard Cable Spiker
Cartridge Powered Cable Spiking Tool | For Spiking Cable up to 110mm Diameter | LV MV HV up to 400kV
The ACVOKE standard cable spiker, manufactured by Accles & Shelvoke, is a high quality safety tool used worldwide.
This cable spiker is a cartridge powered tool which, when fired, drives a steel spike through high voltage electricity cables short circuiting the power and making the cable dead and therefore safe to carry out fault repair working or cable jointing & terminating.
The spiking tool is easy to assemble and simple to operate, while having the power to spike cables of up to 110mm diameter. It is suitable for penetrating every form of normally applied cable coverings with up to .44″ calibre cartridge in four strengths.
The cable spiking tool is suitable for use with all types and voltages of power cable including single and multiple conductor laminated, polymeric, elastomeric, unshielded, shielded, concentric neutral, interlock armoured, steel wire armoured, leaded covered etc – designs in either fixed or portable installations.
For safety, a long lanyard and release pin completely separates the operator from the spiking tools at the moment of firing and a unique self-setting safety system eliminates the risk of the operator inadvertently firing the tool when setting up.
ACVOKE cable spikers are also available as a Mini Cable Spiker for single and multicore polymeric cables up to 75mm and a Heavy-Duty Cable Spiker for cables up to 150mm diameter supplying voltages up to 400KV.

Spiker Cartridges
Care must be taken to select the correct cartridge for the type of cable to be spiked. After use cable spiking equipment should be checked, cleaned and oiled and there must be a procedure to ensure this is carried out and recorded.
There may be occasions where it is required to undertake repair, jointing and termination work on one or two of the single core cables – it would therefore be undesirable to cable spike and damage all three. If only one or two of the single core cables are to be spiked, then insulation tests before and after spiking should be conducted, to confirm that the correct circuit has been spiked. It would necessary to use an instrument that applies a sufficiently high voltage to detect the damaged cable caused by the spiking. This is necessary, as the single core cables may be completely severed by the spike and may appear as an open circuit (and therefore healthy), if the voltage applied by the instrument is too low.
Safety Statement for Cable Spiking Cartridges
The cable spiking tool cartridges are not subject to any firearm licences or restrictions of use, they are shipped within the UK in Limited Quantity size shipments in accordance ADR regulations of nett 5kg through couriers. Mobile or field engineers can store the spiking tool cartridges for day to day useage in the 4G Fibreboard Boxes they are supplied in for safe storage and transportation. Following ADR instructions users should also carry a 2kg Fire Extinguisher in the van, as they can be carrying multiple types of spiking tool cartridges for testing purposes.
