3M Scotch 35 Tape is a superb quality colour coding tape with excellent electrical insulating properties – Scotch insulation tapes have been developed for quality, efficiency, durability and versatility.
Scotch 35 Tape is suitable for primary electrical insulation for all wire and cable joints and splices rated up to 600V and 105°C (220ºF).
The premium PVC Scotch insulation tape can also be used for applications such as protective jacketing for high voltage cable splices and cable repairs and for the harnessing of wires and cables.
The coloured PVC insulation tape is available in 9 different colours and can be used for applications such as colour coding of motor leads and piping systems and marking safety areas.
The Scotch 35 Tape is 0.178mm thick, and is UL Listed and marked per UL Standard 510 as “Flame Retardant and Weather Resistant”.
The tape has excellent resistance to abrasion, moisture, alkalies, acids, corrosion and varying weather conditions (including UV exposure) and forms part of the 3M Scotch Electrical Tapes.

Specification – 3M Scotch 35 Vinyl Electrical Tape
Scotch 35 tape, manufactured by 3M Electrical, is based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and/or its copolymers and has a rubber-based, pressure-sensitive adhesive. The 3M Scotch tape shall be 0.178mm thick and be UL Listed and marked per UL Standard 510 as “Flame Retardant Cold and Weather Resistant”. The Scotch tape must be applicable at temperatures ranging from –18°C through 38° (0°F through 100°F) without loss of physical properties. The Scotch 35 tape shall be classified for use in both indoor and outdoor environments. The tape shall be compatible with synthetic cable insulations, cable jackets and splicing compounds. The vinyl tape used for electrical insulation applications will remain stable and will not telescope more than 2.5mm when maintained at temperatures below 50°C (120°F).

3M SCOTCH 35 TAPE – Installation Techniques
- Scotch 35 Tape should be applied with sufficient tension to produce a uniform wind
- On pigtail splices and joints, the 3M tape shall be wrapped beyond the end of the wires and then folded back, leaving a protective cushion to resist cut-through
- Wrap tape up-hill, taping from a smaller diameter surface to a larger diameter surface
- Apply 3M Scotch 35 tape with no tension on the last wrap to prevent flagging
Maintenance Of 3M Premium coloured PVC Insulation Tape
Scotch 35 Tape complies with the requirements of UL 510 for storage. When maintained under normal storage conditions, the tape will remain stable and has a five-year shelf-life.
