We are excited to announce the launch of the latest innovation from Denso.
The Denso Bore-Wrap is an Abrasion Resistant Outerwrap (ARO) which has outstanding performance against impact, gouge, abrasion, and fracture.
Bore-Wrap creates a superior sacrificial outer laminate layer, which protects both pre-approved field joint coatings and mainline coatings. These coating include liquid epoxy coating, heat shrink sleeves, 3LPE, 3LPP and FBE coatings; which are protected from damage during pipeline installations with Bore-Wrap, in difficult terrain or by means of trenchless installation methods, such as directional drilling, HDD or boring.
Denso Bore-Wrap is easily applied in the field.
With no mixing required, it is simply wrapped over the existing pipeline coating and cured with water. Due to its flexibility and exceptional level of mechanical protection, Bore-Wrap minimises the need for costly spot repairs or re-pulling pipe from damage.

Nexans To Supply Nuclear Rated Cables To Hinkley Point C Project

Nexans will play a key role in the UK’s energy transition with a contract worth around €20 million to supply specialized nuclear cables for the Hinkley Point C new nuclear power station. Over a six-year contract, Nexans will design and manufacture a total of 3,000 kilometers of cables developed to ensure safety, reliability and long life.
Hinkley Point C, under construction in the UK County of Somerset, marks a significant milestone in the revitalization of the UK’s nuclear power sector. With two EPR reactors producing 3,200 megawatts of power for the national grid, the plant will be capable of supplying around 6 million UK homes with low-carbon electricity. This will make a major contribution to the UK’s move to net zero and will offset 9 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year over the plant’s 60-year lifespan.

Nexans is supplying a variety of custom-designed, nuclear-rated cables for the Hinkley Point C site, including medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) power, control and instrumentation cables for pumps, valves, safety systems, power supplies and control room monitoring. They will be installed inside and outside of the nuclear containment area.
It is vital that the cables continue to perform safely and reliably under the demanding environmental conditions corresponding to normal, accidental and/or post-accidental plant operating conditions.
To satisfy the most rigorous safety standards, Nexans ENERGEN NUC halogen-free cables that comply with the Euroclass requirements for reaction to fire. They will be manufactured at the Nexans factory in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, France.

Omexom Ireland Near Completion of The Gorman 110/20kV Substation

Thorne & Derrick secured under competitive tender the order to supply the 33kV Termination & Jointing Materials Package for the medium voltage substation construction from Omexom – this included Size 1- 3 PFISTERER Connex Inner Cone Bushing Connectors and Nexans Euromold Interface C standard and piggy-back configuration Outer Cone Bushing Connectors. Previously, T&D had supplied the Omexom cable jointing teams with cable preparation tools for the safe and efficient stripping of medium voltage cables.
Gorman 110/20kV High Voltage substation
Omexom Ireland are finishing up work on the new Gorman 110/20kV substation. The substation is located 2km outside of Slane in county Meath, Ireland, with work starting in July 2021 and finalising by the end of January 2022. The €2.4M contract was awarded from Scottish Power Renewables for the complete design and build of the 110/20kV substation to enable the connection of a 50MW battery storage complex.

The project is part of a contestable works model introduced in Ireland recently meaning it had to comply with all the Eirgrid/ESBN construction standards.
The new Gorman substation was designed, constructed & commissioned by Omexom Ireland to the Local TSO operator’s specifications (Eirgrid/ESBN). Construction of the substation included: 110kV sealing ends; Current Transformers (CT) and Voltage Transformers (VT); Surge arrestors; a 60Mva transformer (110kV to 20kV); a complete switchgear control building as well as all the necessary auxiliary systems, complete with control & protection panels to operate and protect the 3 panel NX Plus 20kV switchgear supplying the 50MW battery storage complex including 7kM of 20kV cabling.
Once completed at the end of the month the Gorman 110/20kV substation will provide vital grid stability services to the Northern Dublin area.

Hellenic Cables solidifies its position in the UK market with new turnkey contract for High Voltage (HV) Land Cables.
Hellenic Cables has been awarded a contract by SP Transmission PLC (“SPT”), one of UK’s largest grid operators, for the supply and installation of 132kV land cables required for the connection of Douglas West Windfarm to the new SPT 132kV Douglas North collector substation and Kennoxhead Extension Windfarm to Middlemuir Windfarm substation, via a modification of the existing Coalburn – Middlemuir 132kV underground circuit.
The existing Coalburn to Middlemuir 132kV underground cable circuit is required to be modified in order to facilitate the connection of two new wind farms: Douglas West (51 MW) and Kennoxhead Extension (60 MW).
The works include modifications of the existing circuit as well as uprating of the existing cables and redesigning of the earthing system of both the new Coalburn to Douglas North and Douglas North to Middlemuir circuits to ensure that the bonding is balanced following the diversion required to connect Douglas North 132/33kV substation.
Under the contract, Hellenic Cables will supply approx. 10 km of 132kV XLPE-insulated cables and associated accessories, including installation and final testing services through selected partners in the UK.
This contract testifies to Hellenic Cables’ continuous presence and investment in the UK market, where it already operates three stock locations.
The cables will be manufactured at Hellenic Cables’ plant in Thiva, Greece, in the fourth quarter of 2020. With its highly skilled and experienced personnel, state-of-the-art facilities and adherence to best working practices, the plant can produce and deliver high quality power cables serving the biggest utilities in Europe and beyond.
