Cable drum trailers are designed and supplied specifically for “Off Road Use”.

The Site Cable Drum Trailers are all fitted with some form of brake system, hand parking facility and basic vehicle lights – although not built to conform with EEC braking/lighting directives certain Non EEC countries have operated these units on the highway under the proviso that towing speeds indicated must not be exceeded at full rated payload.

All cable drum trailers incorporate the same drum handling features and in some cases additional options as the Highway Range. The SEB range is now able to cater for drum sizes up to 2800mm wide and 5000mm diameter with a maximum payload 48,000kgs – all drum widths stated are with drum locking collars fitted to spindles.

Safe Drum Handling & Site Operation

For safe and easy drum handling, SEB cable drum trailers are fitted with hydraulic hand pump operated lift and lower systems as standard. When the drum is fully raised, mechanical locks help secure the drum in transit. Site cable drum trailers are designed for robust off-road cable installation duties where dependable drum handling, controlled cable payout and practical site manoeuvrability are required.

Designed for Larger Utility Cable Drums

As power cables are supplied in longer lengths to reduce the number of joints required on site, cable drums continue to increase in width, diameter and weight. The SEB site range has developed to accommodate larger utility cable drums used on LV, MV, HV and EHV cable projects, helping contractors transport, lift and dispense cable more efficiently across demanding installation environments.

Optional Drum Drive & Power Lift Systems

Selected cable drum trailers can be supplied with diesel or petrol engine powered drum drive units to assist with paying out or taking up cable, while also providing powered lift of the drum. Depending on specification, drum drive can be applied by hydraulic rams or by hand winches fitted at the rear of the trailer. Powered lift and lower configurations are also available on request.

Adjustable Width Cable Drum Trailers

For projects involving increasingly wide high voltage cable drums, SEB also manufacture hydraulically adjustable width cable drum trailers. These are designed to be transported to site in a practical width and then widened to suit the relevant drum size, providing greater flexibility where one trailer may be required to accommodate different drum widths and weights on the same project.

• Hydraulically operated adjustable width section
• Hydraulic jacking system to elevate trailer and allow side extension / retraction
• Pinning arrangement to secure the chassis at the selected width
• Drum drive system mounted to the main sides so it widens and retracts with the trailer
• Controls for drum drive and power lift units positioned at the rear of the trailer

After Sales Support, Refurbishment & Training

SEB also provide after sales support for cable drum trailers and associated cable installation equipment, including spare parts, in-house repair, refurbishment and routine maintenance services. This can include rebuilds to trailer chassis, suspension, lighting and hydraulic systems, with final testing and re-certification where required. Product training is also available either on site or at SEB premises.
