MV HV | Medium & High Voltage

The correct selection and specification of Nexans Euromold connectors is dependent on the cable specification and the electrical equipment MV HV bushing type. There are 6 bushing interfaces common to MV electrical equipment (A, B, C, D, E or F).

The MV-HV electrical equipment to which Nexans Euromold connectors are fitted to must have the correct MV HV bushing Interface and be designed to suit the cable specification.

Euromold connectors are suitable for connecting single and 3 core polymeric insulated cables with copper wire or tape screens up to 33kV – this has recently been increased to 72kV to cater for offshore wind farm cable terminations onto 66kV switchgear and high voltage electrical equipment.

Nexans Euromold HV bushings are suitable for use in oil and air insulated high voltage switchgear, transformers, motors and capacitors – this includes 11kV, 15kV, 24kV, 33kV and 66kV cable systems.

Nexans is the leading European specialised designer, manufacturer and distributor of prefabricated cable accessories for Medium Voltage & High Voltage Energy Distribution. Under its tradename Euromold, it provides a complete range of accessories for underground cables: premoulded EPDM rubber connectors for cables and epoxy bushings for transformers and switchgear, as well as a large range of cold-shrinkable and heat shrink cable connection products including terminations and joints.

Euromold Bushings Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE RANGE OF THE EUROMOLD EPOXY BUSHINGS?

The temperature range in which a Euromold bushing can operate is from -40°C to +115°C.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM TORQUE FOR THE FIXING STUDS HOLDING THE BUSHING CLAMP?

The maximum torque for the fixing studs is not officially standardised, but we recommend maximum 16Nm for M10 and maximum 25 Nm for M12 studs.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CABLES WHICH CAN BE CONNECTED TO A BUSHING?

The maximum number of cables which can be connected to a bushing, depends on the maximum allowed current, on the stability of the arrangement and on the type of interface. Interface A and B have a plug-in interface so maximum one cable can be connected in a normal arrangement because a bail restraint is needed to hold connector in place, multiple cable arrangement for these interfaces are only possible with 200T- or 200X-connectors. For other interfaces such as Interface C, a multiple connections such as P2, P3, P4, … are possible.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EPOXY BUSHING AND PORCELIAN INSULATOR?

The Euromold epoxy bushings can be connected to screened separable connectors, providing a screened safe-to-touch connection. Porcelain insulators can be connected with terminations, which are open connections and thus not safe-to-touch and require larger clearance distances.

WHAT IS AN IN-AIR BUSHING?

The shaft of an in-air bushing does not need to be immersed in oil. The creepage length over the surface is long enough to install it in air and the epoxy material is resistant to UV light.

WHAT IS A PITO-E?

A PITO-E is a plug-in termination, enabling to connect overhead lines or busbars to an Interface A epoxy bushing.

ARE EUROMOLD BUSHINGS DEADBREAK OR LOADBREAK BUSHINGS?

Euromold bushings are deadbreak bushings. The power has to be switched off before the connector can be disconnected from the bushing.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF A BUSHING?

Bushings are devices designed to transmit electric energy through a grounded barrier, such as the wall of a transformer or switchgear. The Euromold epoxy bushings provide an insulated and screened connection between the conductors in the equipment and conductor of the cable.
