Voltage Detectors

Pfisterer KP-Test 5H is a capacitive voltage detector for nominal voltages from 25kV to 400kV. The voltage detector presents the operating voltage when brought into contact with the conductor.

The Pfisterer KP-Test 5H voltage detector provides a high level of user-friendliness and user safety – KP-Test 5H is designed and type tested to Standard IEC 61243-1.

Other versions of the HV high voltage detector with deviating voltages, ranges of nominal voltages, frequencies and languages are available on request.

KP-Test 5H instruments detect the following voltage classes: 25kV 33kV, 66kV, 110kV 132kV, 220kV, 400kV, 420kV.

♦ When using voltage detectors to establish presence of operating voltages on MV-HV power cables or overhead lines there may be a requirement to apply field equipment earths, portable earthing, to equipment which is working adjacent to Live conductors to discharge any induced voltages.

For the use on Network Rail OLE & Isolation schemes the Pfisterer KP5, Module E14C, is Approved to NR/L3/ELP/27237 and PADS Certified.

Live Line Indicator Scope

This module covers the use and care of the Pfisterer KP-Test 5HL Live Line Indicator (LLI) – as detailed on product acceptance certificate PA05/06351. This LLT electrical safety device is used for checking 25kV AC electrical conductors before the application of portable earths and before touching conductors to reduce the likelihood of operators interacting with live conductors, therefore reducing the likelihood of damage to the infrastructure and serious injury to personnel.

Live Line Indicator Description

The KP-Test 5HL LLI is one of a number of approved Live Line Indicators LLIs that may be used to test the 25kV conductors to confirm that it has been disconnected from the source of supply prior to attaching earths (test before earth) or testing before touching.

KP-Test 5HL LLI Method of Use 

The KP-Test 5HL LLI shall only be used by personnel holding a valid competency (i.e. Authorised Person or Nominated Person) who shall have received a familiarisation briefing.

The KP-Test 5HL LLI shall only be applied to the lowest conductor of those being tested, i.e. contact wire or bottom autotransformer feeder (ATF) only. The KP-Test 5HL LLI shall only be attached to approved live line poles.
