Operating Poles & Earthing Rods | MV HV Substations
33kV & 66kV up to 400kV | According to ENA Technical Specification 41 – 21
Pbwel operating poles and earthing rods, are manufactured from a lightweight resin-impregnated fiberglass of a high electrical insulation grade. The poles are machined to provide rigid assembly and include a double snap action spring locking device and are approved to the ENA technical specification 41/21.
HV substation operating poles are available as 2.44m (4ft) top and bottom single sections or two 1.22m (4ft) sections permanently linked to avoid a 1.22m (4ft) length of pole being fitted with an operating socket and form part of the Pbwel substation earthing equipment range.
Most commonly used are 4’ (1.22m) sections due to their ease of transportation and the flexibility they offer when erecting on-site to suit busbar height. The top section should be fitted with an S9D or CEA/S2 Operating Socket.
T&D also offer operating sockets for substation use with HV substation operating poles and earthing rods.

HV Substation Operating Poles & Earthing Rods
- Lightweight clamps
- Precision machined for rigidity
- High electrical resistance
The range of operating poles for medium/high voltage substation earthing include single 8ft (2.44m) sections and single 4ft (1.22m) section poles – these can be interconnected to form the required length on site comprising bottom (with a handgrip), intermediate and top sections. Our operating poles are manufactured from lightweight resin-impregnated fibreglass of a high electrical Insulation grade and employ precision joints to reduce deflection and improve handling on site.
