Taishan Nuclear Power Project
The Taishan Nuclear Power Project is a joint venture between EDF and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group, it is the second nuclear power station to be built using Areva’s 1,750 megawatt EPR and it is the second time Areva has used Ellis Patent’s products to secure electrical cables at a nuclear plant.
Our first specification for Areva was for its OL3 reactor in Finland in 2009, and was secured as a result of our proven technical expertise and excellent industrial references.

Emperor Cable Cleat
The Emperor Cable Cleat is designed for use where the highest levels of short circuit withstand are required, Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats are available for both trefoil and single cable applications. All products in the range are manufactured in type 316L stainless steel, meaning they provide ultimate corrosion protection, even in the harshest of environments.
The benefits of the Emperor cleats also extend to a patented design, which makes installation quick and easy, and an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit.
ProTect Cable Strap
Ellis’ ProTect cable straps, which are manufactured out of 316L stainless steel, are designed for installation between trefoil cleats, such as Emperors. They not only enhance short circuit capabilities, but help to retain trefoil formation and, because they allow for greater fixing distances between cleats, can reduce installation time and cost.

The FPSO is the first of eight replica FPSOs to be built for the development of the pre-salt projects in the prolific Santos basin. The vessel will have a processing capacity of 150,000 bpd of oil and 6 million m³/day of natural Emperor Cable Cleat.

UKPN London Power Tunnel
The London Power Tunnels project will create a new 32km electricity super highway deep below the capital, which will help keep Londoners connected to safe and reliable electricity supplies. In some areas of the system power is transmitted via 6 sets of cables in trefoil arrangement, to safely contain these cables a new trefoil cable cleat was required.

Ellis Patents Solution
Working directly with UK Power Networks (UKPN), Ellis Patents developed a trefoil version of its Centaur cable saddle, a bespoke product that not only allowed the preferred trefoil arrangement of HV cables to be run through a stretch of tunnel between New Cross and Finsbury Market, but also significantly reduce the number of supports required. An essential part of the development process was a product test in a short circuit test station in Prague. For the test the structure used in the tunnel was created and suitable cable shipped from the UK.

Summit Tunnel Track Renewal
Ellis Patents recieved a request from ISS Labour Ltd, whom required cable hangers for the track renewal programme at Summit Tunnel in Todmorden, Lancashire. Contractor CRSA Balfour Beatty had requested that the cable hangers be fitted onto the tunnel wall in order to replace the previous troughing route. The hangers were to be installed at 1m intervals, with the bottom bracket installed at rail height.
Track Renewal With 4 Way Pegasus Hanger
Ellis Patents Solution
The Ellis Pegasus hanger offered a non-corrosive, lightweight & modular hanger option. The modular element allowed the 4 way hanger to consist of a combination of 100mm hooks and a control style bottom hook, to suit project requirements. ISS Labour selected Pegasus for its high quality. The 1200 units were supplied to a short project timeframe, to suit the track access timetable provided by ISS Labour.

Cable System Replacement Project
The client approached Ellis Patents for an upgrade to the cable systems at the USACE operated Fort Randall Dam, requiring a flexible system to be designed to cope with thermodynamic movement of the cables.
With no prior experience of such systems, USACE & Interstate Electrical Contractors Inc. contacted Ellis for assistance. The requirement was to install 12 cables onto an existing support framework which left limited space for installation

Ellis Patents Solution
The cables could not be mounted in a rigid system using standard cable cleats, so Ellis developed a custom made variation of the Centaur Cable Saddle with a cable range of 68-73mm. With several bends and risers along the route, they also developed Anchor Clamps to secure the run and provided the Centaur Roller System to assist with installation.
