Nexans GPH Mechanical Cable Lugs MV HV
Offering a reliable and efficient method of jointing & connecting MV HV cables, varied conductor types and materials up to 52kV, the Nexans GPH Cable Lugs MV HV range includes the Mechanical Shearbolt C-Series, which provides a unique bolt system, known as the multiple shear-off-head bolt. Nexans GPH Cable Lugs range uses a multiple shear-off-head bolt to clamp respective conductor cross section with an appropriate torque moment using an inner/outer hexagon.
The Mechanical Shearbolt 52kV C-Series of Nexans GPH Cable Lugs MV HV is designed to allow a larger, multirange conductor cross-section even for MV HV cable terminations. Nexans GPH Mechanical Cable Lugs are high strength tinplated with different palm holes, similar to compression cable lugs. The connector body material is a high strength aluminium alloy, and the bolts are brass, tinplated, with an inner and outer hexagon.

The IEC 61238-1 Standards covers the test methods and requirements for compression and mechanical Cable Lugs & Connectors designed for MV HV Power Cables, with operating voltages up to 30kV (Um = 36kV). The IEC 61238-1 compliant Cable Lugs & Connectors are typically used with buried cables or cables installed in buildings. Mechanical Shearbolt 52kV C-Series Technical Details
The Cable Lugs bolt has an inner and outer hexagon, which are both related to the various shear-off-areas of the bolt and their different torque moments. The torque moments follow the rule that large conductor cross sections require high torque moments and small cross sections need lower torque moments. The installation instructions for the Nexans GPH Mechanical Cable Lugs MV HV describes use of both hexagons and of the various centre rings and inserts, for the respective conductor types.
- Simple & Quick Installation: The Mechanical Shearbolt C-Series is equipped with common commercially available inner and outer hexagon tools or an improved impact wrench.
- Minimum Storage Costs: The cross-sectional area from 16mm² to 1000mm² is covered by just 4 types of cable lugs.
- Universal Applicability: The Mechanical Shearbolt C-Series can be used for copper and aluminium conductors according to EN 60228 class 1 & class 2.
