Repairing minor damage to cable jackets/sheaths, such as scratches and grooves from sharp edges require the following steps:

  1. Clean the power cable surface with a solvent and sandpaper using 3M Cable Preparation Kit CC-3 or 3M Scotch 1626 Degreasing and Cleaning.
  2. Half-lap Scotch 3M Scotch Cable Jacket Repair 2234 over the damaged jacket/sheath area.
  3. Overwrap each end with 3M Scotch Super 33+ Vinyl Electrical Tape, used to add radial pressure to ensure the best adhesion and sealing.

In the event of a cable jacket/sheath being torn, it’s important to firstly check the inner layers of the power cables are untouched, then follow these steps:

  1. Remove the torn edges from the cable jacket/sheath, then clean the surface of the power cable with a solvent and sandpaper. Recommended products to use are 3M Cable Preparation Kit CC-3 or 3M Scotch 1626 Degreasing and Cleaning.
  2. Fill and seal the torn holes in the cable jacket/sheath with 3M Scotchfil Electrical Insulation Putty.
  3. Overwrap the whole repair length with 3M Scotch Cable Jacket Repair Tape 2234.
