Constant Force Springs
3M Constant Force Springs are a range of solderless connections for use on lead, or aluminium cable sheaths, to connect cable screen, or armour within a joint kit, and for use in connecting the copper screen to earth for medium voltage terminations. The products are made from Stainless Steel Type 301/302, and are compatible with all metallic screen and armour types.
Constant force springs from 3M Electrical are a solderless connection used in earthing or grounding applications to apply a uniform radial pressure onto the cable. They can be used on lead and aluminium cable sheaths, cable screening tapes or wires and steel or aluminium armour wires.
This product is RoHS 2011/65/EU Compliant and has a 10 year shelf life from date of manufacture when stored in a humidity controlled storage (-50ºC to +50ºC and <75% relative humidity).
Constant force springs manufactured by 3M Electrical are suitable for use with heat shrink, Cold Shrink and Scotchcast resin cable joints and repair kits.

Excerpt LV Cable jointing Manual UKPN | Constant Force Spring Service Termination Bond | position the tinned copper braid onto the lead sheath of the cable and secure it with one turn of the constant force spring. Bend the tinned copper braid back over the first turn of the constant force spring and secure it in place with rest of the constant force spring. Apply one half-lap layer of PVC tape over the spring.
Excerpt LV Cable jointing Manual UKPN | PILC Heatshrink Mains Pot End Joints | Clean the surface compound from the cable core with an approved solvent cable wipe. Wrap the supplied length of tinned copper mesh around the exposed neutral conductor. Place one end of the tinned copper braid on the mesh around the neutral conductor and apply the smaller of the supplied constant force springs. The Jointer must ensure the constant force spring is tight.
