3M LC6

3M LC6 cable joint uses Cold Shrink technology for repairing, splicing and jointing polymeric (XLPE EPR) cables eliminating resin handling or exposure to naked flames associated with heat-shrink joints.

Selection guide for jointing multicore power cables using 3M LC6 joint kit:

  • Single Core 1kV – 800-100sqmm
  • 2 Core 1kV – 240-300sqmm
  • 3 Core 1kV 185-240sqmm
  • 4 Core 1kV 150-185sqmm

Cold Shrink tubes are quick, easy and safe to install providing a reliable cable joint and environmental seal resistant to acid, alkalis, ozone and UV light.

With smooth profile, minimal space displacement and lightweight design the cable joints are suitable for installation in cable congested and confined areas, such as cable trays.

For direct burial of 3M LC6 cable joints additional underground mechanical protection could be required.

LC6 cold shrink cable joint kit, manufactured by 3M Electrical, is designed for use on XLPE/PVC/EPR,  insulation, Lead Sheath, Steel Wire Armoured (SWA), Galvanised Steel Wire Braided (GSBW) and PVC Sheathed cables up to 3.3kV – complete range of Cold Shrink terminations available for connection of LV power cables 600/1000v / 3.3kV.

Each 3M LC6 cold shrink joint kit comprises of outer protection tube, copper braid stocking, constant force springs, Scotch 2228 mastic tape and Scotch 23 self-amalgamating tape.

3M LC6 cable joint can be used joint XLPE steel wire armoured (SWA) or EPR galvanised steel wire braided (GSWB) cables – the armour continuity is provided by a copper wire stocking attached to the cable armour using 3M constant force springs for cable diameters 44-70mm.

Hazardous AreasATEX Cable Joints

Without the requirement to provide a heat source, such as a Jointers gas torch with naked flames as required to install heat shrink cable joints, the LC6 kit is safe and cold-applied for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and hazardous area locations.
