Ripley US02 MAX

SEMICON SHAVER & STRIPPING TOOLS

No Grease & No Clamps | Suits MV HV Cables up to 80mm Diameter

The US02 Max Semicon Shaver & Stripping Tool manufactured by Ripley Tools quickly and easily removes bonded semi-con from MV & HV Power Cables without the requirement for lubrication.

The semicon tool with a unique blade shape and stop position, this precision tool preserves the smooth surface on insulation and bevels off the edge, eliminating the need for additional surface finishing. The compact design accurately removes semi-con within 1.96′′ (50 mm) of the jacket on mid-span and end stripping applications.

US02 7100 tool is engineered with multiple stainless steel contact bearings, its optimal stability design securely supports cables with diameters from 2.17 to 3.15″ (55mm to 80mm) throughout the shaving operation of the cable preparation process, prior to jointing or terminating medium voltage cables.

The US02 MAX features a revolving ergonomic handle and accessible adjustment knobs for comfort and ease-of-use, reducing effort and potential strain for cable technicians performing repetitive shaving functions in the field.

RIPLEY US02-7100 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Retract the blade to its highest position by turning the gold blade adjusting knob counter clockwise
  2. Open the tool and locate the cable end approximately 2-3mm left of the taper transition on the blade as shown in Figure 1a and 1b. Secure the cable in the tool
  3. Turn the blade adjusting knob clockwise until the blade touches the semi-con screen
  4. Set the feed lever at #1 stripping position (Fig. 2). #1 is a conservative feed
  5. Rotate the tool on the cable. As the tool advances on the cable, observe the semi-con chip and re-adjust the blade depth for a minimal thickness of insulation removal and an optimal shaving result
  6. The feed lever has four indexed feed positions. It can be indexed diagonally toward the #2 for a more aggressive feed or fully at the #2 for the fastest feed. The feed can be slowed down by indexing the lever diagonally toward the Stop position
  7. Observe the shaved semi-con strip during operation. During the shaving process, do not allow the strip to get caught under the cable rollers. This will disturb the shaving result. A convenient technique is to loop the shaved semicon strip through the winding loop on the tool and tie it off at the end of the cable. Note the direction and placement in Fig.3
  8. After shaving to the desired length, move the feed lever to the stop position (Fig.4). Make one full turn to finish the shaving. Carefully remove the tool from the cable
