CabLE JOINTS

Thorne & Derrick stock and distribute a comprehensive range of Resin Cable Joints for low voltage power cable jointing.

The cable joints are suitable for SWA (Armoured) XLPE, EPR, PVC and PILC cables, the range covers cable sizes from 1.5–400sqmm and voltage ratings from 600/1000V – from stock we can supply 3M Scotchcast and Filoform Straight, Branch, Y-Type and Transition arrangement cable jointing kits to connect, repair and energise all types of street lighting cables.

Low voltage jointing kits for street lighting cable applications are also available in Cold Shrink and Heat Shrink technology – contact us to discuss your requirements.

Jointing Cables | Street lighting cables and joints must be durable, weather-resistant and capable of withstanding mechanical stress from being buried or exposed. In the UK, the standard choice for street lighting is Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) cable, typically following BS 5467 or BS 6724 standards.

Repair Cables

3M Heat Shrink Cable Repair sleeves are designed to quickly repair damaged cable sheath jacketing – suitable for use with cable joints and as additional corrosion protection on undamaged cables located in direct buried cable trench applications.

Wrap-around cable repair involves using adhesive-lined heat-shrinkable sleeves to repair damaged cable jackets on energised circuits without requirement to isolate or disconnect from service – the cable repair sleeves are wrapped around the cable, secured with a metal retention channel and installed using a heat shrink gun creating a durable, watertight and insulating seal to damaged street lighting cables.

We can also provide a selection of 3M Scotch Tapes to re-instate cable sheath and insulation levels to aged damaged cables.

Thorne & Derrick supply Alroc cable preparation tools for contractors and engineers carrying out cable installation, jointing, maintenance and repair work across highways and street lighting applications.

The Alroc range includes sheath stripping and cable preparation tools designed to support safe, accurate and efficient preparation of power cables prior to jointing or termination. Suitable for routine field use, these tools help deliver clean, controlled cable preparation for low voltage infrastructure and street lighting networks.

CEMBRE TOOLING

Thorne & Derrick supply Cembre tooling for cable cutting, preparation, crimping and termination work across highways and street lighting applications.

Suitable tools include the HB23 Stripping Tool for circular cable preparation, together with the HP3 and HP5 Ratchet Crimp Tools for pre-insulated cable connectors. For larger uninsulated connector applications, the B450ND-BE and B500NDE battery-powered hydraulic crimp tools from Cembre can also be considered where higher cable crimping capacity is required.
