Pbwel operating poles and earthing rods, are manufactured from a lightweight resin-impregnated fiberglass of a high electrical insulation grade. The poles are machined to provide rigid assembly and include a double snap action spring locking device and are approved to the ENA Technical Specification 41-21.
HV substation operating poles are available as 2.44m (8ft) top and bottom single sections or two 1.22m (4ft) sections permanently linked to avoid a 1.22m (4ft) length of pole being fitted with an operating socket and form part of the Pbwel substation earthing equipment range.
Most commonly used are 4’ (1.22m) pole sections due to their ease of transportation and the flexibility they offer when erecting on-site to suit busbar height. The top section of the operating pole should be fitted with an S9D or CEA/S2 Operating Socket.

The range of operating poles for medium/high voltage substation earthing include single 8ft (2.44m) sections and single 4ft (1.22m) section poles – these can be interconnected to form the required length on site comprising bottom (with a handgrip), intermediate and top sections. Our operating poles are manufactured from lightweight resin-impregnated fibreglass of a high electrical Insulation grade and employ precision joints to reduce deflection and improve handling on site.
A 2ft (0.6m) special pole is also available for earth tape bridging kits, consisting of upper and lower operating pole sections identified by blue pigmented open weave hand grip.

An extensive range of Operating Poles manufactured from lightweight resin-impregnated fibreglass provide highest levels of electrical safety and insulation across standard voltages: 11kV, 33kV 66kV. The operating poles can be inter-connected to achieve extended lengths for both Medium Voltage & High Voltage (MV-HV) overhead line and substation applications. The poles are compliant to ENA Technical Specification TS 41-21 which combines substation and overhead line portable earthing requirements (previously covered by ENA TS 43-81).
