Many power connectors in service (low voltage and high voltage) are subjected to severe outdoor environments causing galvanic corrosion which weakens electrical joints leading to ultimate failure. This corrosion problem is apparent in all areas especially offshore, marine and coastal applications – galvanic corrosion can generate between aluminium to copper, aluminium to aluminium and copper to copper joints.

Degradation of the conductor connector is caused by the action of galvanic corrosion – build up of corrosion leads to a loss of electrical and mechanical integrity and joint failure. The application of Unial universal electrical jointing paste can have a major positive effect on the connector performance and enhance electrical efficiency.

Unial jointing paste is an oxide inhibiting compound and used in a wide variety of jointing applications where permanent low-resistance joints are vital – typical Unial paste applications include overhead line conductors, cable joints and jointing, transformer and switchgear connections and lightning conductors.

For installing lightning earthing system applications, it is recommended to use copper earth electrode systems due to their inherent low resistivity and corrosion resistance.
