Product Overview
The US14 tool manufactured by Ripley Tools easily performs ring cuts and slit midspans on ducts and heavy-duty cables and is used primarily to assist in the removal of outer sheathing and primary insulation on LV-MV industrial power cables. Its unique ratcheting mechanism quickly grips and penetrates ducts and cables over 25 mm in diameter.
The Ripley US14 stripping tool will safely cut through many forms of outer sheathing materials such as PE, PVC, and EPR with thicknesses up to 5 mm (0.2”). The sheath slitting tool is particularly useful on cables with an out of round shape as the tool will follow the form of the cable.
The US14 has a micro adjustable blade depth to avoid underlying cable damage. The tool has a ratcheting advance wheel that allows increased control of the longitudinal and radial cuts.

Operation & Safety
Some Fault Diagnosis Tips
| Problem | Solution |
| The tool is not cutting cleanly. | Check blade sharpness, confirm blade depth setting, and inspect whether the sheath material is within the tool capability. |
| Underlying cable layers are being marked. | Reduce blade depth using the micro-adjustment control before continuing the cut. |
| The tool is difficult to guide around the cable. | Confirm the cable diameter is above 25mm and position the 3-piece knuckle correctly so it follows the cable contour. |
| Cut progression feels uneven. | Inspect the ratcheting drive wheel and ensure the tool is being advanced steadily during longitudinal or radial cutting. |
Routine Care
- Keep the tool clean and dry after use.
- Inspect the blade regularly for wear or damage.
- Replace worn blades with the correct US14-7500 replacement blade.
- Check blade adjustment before each cable preparation task.
- Store the tool safely to protect the blade and adjustment components.
Note: Always use the US14 within its intended cable diameter and sheath thickness range, and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions.
Warnings
- This tool should not be used on live electrical circuits.
- Always use approved eye protection when operating the tool.
- Do not use the tool for purposes other than intended sheath and jacket removal.
- Set the blade depth carefully to avoid damage to the underlying cable layers.
- Keep hands clear of the blade and cutting path during operation.
