Klauke have recently introduced the professional panel building kit containing the EKWF120ML and EK30IDML battery-powered hydraulic cable crimping tools which can be easily used to crimp quickly and safely without changing inserts.
A selection of Klauke testers were selected to try the crimping tools and give feedback. We are excited to share with you the testimonials of the selected Klauke testers from Instagram who put the EKWF120ML through its paces.
I applied to be a tester because I was already speculating about buying the tool and I am generally interested in new products. Possibly receiving a device for free was of course also decisive 😉
Has the tool made your everyday work easier? And which features were particularly worth mentioning?
I got the EKWF120ML, although I actually preferred to have the EK30IDML. However, it was then surprising that suddenly many areas of application opened up for the EKWF120ML. The 10.8V platform is basically very handy and easy to use. Even our “old hand” in manufacturing, who has been building control cabinets for over 30 years and is one of the last to get excited about new things, was immediately convinced – and that’s saying something!
Are there other Klauke products in use? If so, which ones?
We use a wide range of Klauke tools including the EK30IDML,EK50ML, ES32FMLand ESM50
I knew that I absolutely had to test the tool after Peter presented the EKWF120ML in the Klauke Instagram Live. When you could then apply for the Klauke testers, I knew I had to take part!
Has the tool made your everyday work easier? And which features were particularly worth mentioning?
The tool has definitely made my work easier. I like to use it to build distributions. Compared to hand pliers, working is simply more relaxed. Most of the time I work with cross-sections up to 16mm², but even there the EKWF120ML is worthwhile. And if you do work with larger cross-sections, you have the right tool at hand. And that’s without having to change inserts.
I particularly like the return stop, because I usually work with one cross section and with that you don’t always have to open and close the press completely. In addition, the rotatable head is great because you can also get into tight places.
Do you use other Klauke products? If so, which ones?
Of course, when it comes to pressing, I rely on Klauke!
I regularly use, or used to use, the Klauke K3/6K, the hand wire end ferrule pliers. Since I have the EKWF120ML, but not quite as often. In addition, I also like to use a small cable cutter from Klauke. In the company we still have the Klauke Micro and some hand pliers, depending on what to press.
I applied as a tester because I’ve always thought Klauke was great and why always complain about old products when you can make constructive suggestions for improvement with the new ones?
Has the tool made your day-to-day work easier? And which features were particularly worth mentioning?
It has definitely made my day-to-day work easier, as I always found it annoying to change the press dies for different ferrules. Especially with twin ferrules, you were never sure which press insert to use. With the EKWF120ML, I always have the right press with me. What surprised me the most was, that you no longer have any problems with folding the ferrule, it fits perfectly in/under the clamps.
Do you use other Klauke products? If so, which ones?
Yes, I use other Klauke products, including the Klauke Micro and theK30/6k.

Secure Ladder Openings & Prevent Falls From Height With Self-Closing Industrial Safety Gates
Organisations and employers are responsible for ensuring safety when working at heights. To ensure the safety of individuals exposed to potential hazards, the use of safety-gates can be an effective and reliable alternative to traditional safety methods.
Even though traditional methods like chains, bars and sliding link tubes are still used to ensure access and egress to rooftops from ladders, potential hazards still exist. These methods rely on correct usage and can therefore be unreliable if used incorrectly.
CableSafe recommend the use of double bar safety gates over single bar safety gates.
Self-closing safety gates are spring loaded, therefore they automatically close behind the user and maintain a safe barrier to protect personnel. The automatic closing door reduces the potential of human error.
➡ Thorne & Derrick supply the complete range of Safety Tools & Equipmentto enable safe working in sectors such as the construction, renewables, data centres, rail, manufacturing and oil, gas, petrochemical industries. We also offer a range of Push Pull Tools for the reduction in Hand Injuries in the workplace designed to improve safety at work.
Cable Safe Self Closing Safety Gate
The self-closing double bar safety gate from CableSafe is designed to prevent falls from heights at ladder openings, working platforms or pedestrian areas. The safety gates exceed the EUISO 14122-3 standard requirements and is TÜV tested (certificates available on request). This European standard requires a self-closing gate with at least a hand and knee-rail. This self closing gate proven design is successfully used over 30 years, sold 500,000+ units in over 60 countries.
The industrial safety gate uses gravity to close, therefore is non-dependant on springs, dampers, cams or operators.
CableSafe safety gates are easy to install as well as easy to adjust with any new or existing structures. The Self-closing safety gates can be cut down and adjusted to fit the on-site openings; therefore no measurements are required before purchase. Since the gates are used as barriers to prevent unintended egress, they undergo extensive tests of durability and reliability to ensure that they are corrosion resistant and maintenance free. Regardless of how much weight is exerted on the gate, it does not bend, twist or break.
Safety Gates Features & Benefits
The self-closing industrial safety gates are considered ideal for elevated platforms because they provide permanent protection to users. As soon as the worker passes through the gap the door instantly closes behind, eliminating the risk and ensuring permanent safety. Safety gates are overall a cost-effective and simple safety solution: installation and adjustments are a one-time investment and there are no requirements for cleaning and maintenance.
Easy to install (light weight).

DIN 46235 is a standard that defines the applications, dimensions and the designation of compression cable lugs. Compression cable lugs according to this standard may be used for one, several, fine and super-fine stranded conductors.
The conductor design is defined in DIN EN 60228 (IEC 60228). The conductor design was previously described in VDE 0295. Copper cables according to DIN 48201-1 can also be processed using these cable lugs.
▶ Thorne & Derrick International, based in the UK, are leading suppliers of cable crimp lugs and associated crimping tools for Low, Medium & High Voltage Cables and Power Systems – this series of articles by Klauke discusses the theory and practise of installing compression type cable lugs and connectors.
When processing sector conductors, attention must be paid to ensure that the sector conductors are pre-rounded using the corresponding tool. Pre-rounding dies with the right sector sleeves are suitable for this purpose, for example.
The markings on the product provide useful information about the origin and use of the compression cable lugs – the same also applies to tubular cable lugs. Here is an example of what “KL 20 12 – 120” means:
KL: Manufacturer code (Klauke in this particular instance)
20: Tool number (only for cable lugs according to DIN 46235)
12: Size of standard metric bolt dimensions for the connecting bolts – in this case M 12 screws
120: Specified nominal cross-section of conductor in mm²
3 types of lugs: DIN cable lugs, standard tubular cable lugs and sheet metal terminals (from left to right)
Compression cable lugs also have markings that provide information regarding the number and width of crimpings. The standard recommends hexagonal crimping dies according to DIN 48083-4 for processing purposes. The hexagonal dimensions are described in this standard. This means you can be sure the connection is definitely DIN-compliant.
The conductor nominal cross-sections of compression cable lugs range from 6sqmm to 1000sqmm, the hole diameter for the connecting bolt is between M5 and M20.
Compression cable lugs are made from electrolyte copper: a copper tube is shaped into a cable lug by crimping and cutting. Compression cable lugs are tin plated as standard to protect against corrosion – just like tubular cable lugs and solderless terminals. However bright finish versions are available as well.
The associated compression joint is defined in DIN 46267-1. However, the properties and processing are identical.
