Thorne & Derrick International, based in the UK, stock and distribute the complete range of cable cleats and cable hangers manufactured by Ellis Patents including the Alpha range for short circuit retention and cable protection of LV (Low Voltage), MV (Medium Voltage) and HV (High Voltage) power cable systems in single-way or trefoil installation.
Ellis Patents Alpha Cable Cleats are aluminium or LSF Zero Halogen trefoil cable cleats for cable diameters ranging from 23.2-74.6mm for cable applications where the moderate to low levels of short circuit withstand are required.
Alpha cable cleats are designed for rapid installation and are manufactured from extruded aluminium making it lighter and tougher than cast products.
The trefoil cable cleats are supplied with zinc plated closing fasteners. The polymeric LSF zero halogen base option can be used to prevent galvanic corrosion.
International Standard IEC 61914:2009
Ellis Patent cable cleats with international specifications are used to clamp and retain LV MV HV cables including 11kV and 33kV networks depending on short-circuit calculations according to IEC61914 calculations.

INSTALLING CABLE CLEATS
Installation instructions for trefoil cables using Alpha cleats manufactured by Ellis Patents:
1. Remove the setscrew, sprung washer and nut. Fix the cleat to the support structure with a securing bolt, washer and nut (supplied upon request). NOTE: The cleat may have the optional LSF (plastic base). Installation instructions are common.
|2. Install the cables.
NOTE: Trefoil installation pictured – single cable installation similar.
|3. Replace the setscrew, sprung washer and nut and tighten.
NOTE: Do not over-tighten. The cable cleat should secure the cable but does not need to be so tight that the cable bulges at either side of the trefoil cleat.

Project Application: Trefoil Cable Cleats (Transmission Substations). The world’s leading cable cleat manufacturer, Ellis have secured a specification and installation by Edelnor (Peru – Lima) for their range of Alpha trefoil cable cleats to retain and clamps cables in trackside and tunnel locals on the city’s metropolitan railway system. Ellis Alpha cable cleats manufactured from extruded aluminium (6000 series) to BS EN 755 are more robust and durable than cast aluminium cable cleats – one bolt fixing for simple and fast installation with 2 base options (aluminium or polymer), the latter for use in LV MV HV cable installations where galvanic corrosion could be a concern.
Cable Cleats v Cable Ties
The Video produced by Ellis Patents provides compelling evidence of the need to ensure all cables are adequately supported and retained to cable containment to protect against the devastating effects of short circuit faults: 118kA Short Circuit Fault Current | 0.1 Seconds Duration | 480V Low Voltage Cables.
