Cable Cleats
Thorne & Derrick International, based in the UK, stock and distribute the complete range of cable cleats and cable hangers manufactured by Ellis Patents including Vulcan cleats for short circuit retention and cable protection of LV (Low Voltage), MV (Medium Voltage) and HV (High Voltage) cable systems in single-way or trefoil installation.
Ellis Patents Vulcan+ Cable Cleats are stainless steel single cable cleats for cable diameters ranging from 30-170mm for cable applications where the highest level of short circuit withstand and protection is required – the Vulcan cleats clamp and secure substation and switchgear cabling in both onshore and offshore industrial or hazardous area locations where high levels of corrosion resistance are required.
Vulcan+ cable cleats, manufactured from stainless steel, are compact in design for easy installation onshore and offshore when space is limited and offering the ultimate protection against the harshest environmental conditions. The cable cleat comes with an integral Low Smoke and Fume Zero Halogen Polymeric liner and base pad offering the cables and sheath protection during short-circuit conditions.
International Standard IEC 61914:2009
Ellis Patent cable cleats with international specifications are used to clamp and retain LV MV HV cables including 11kV and 33kV networks depending on short-circuit calculations according to IEC61914 calculations.
For cable installations where corrosion protection is required, including onshore and offshore substations or hazardous area locations, see our complete range of ➡ stainless steel cable cleats.

Installing Cable Cleats
Installation instructions for single way cables using Vulcan+ cleats manufactured by Ellis Patents:
1. Bolt the Vulcan cable cleat to the support structure using either the single central or two outer fixing positions | 2. Install the cables, when necessary remove the removable base pad to allow for the larger cables in the trefoil cleats range | 3. Remove the flange nut. Bend the two edges of the cleat around the cables until they are parallel. Locate the screw into adjacent hole and replace the flange nut | 4. Tighten flange nut to complete cable cleat installation |
WARNING – Do not over tighten the stainless steel cable cleat. The liner should be in good firm contact with the cable but does not need to be so tight that the cable bulges at either side of the liner.
Twist Foot Vulcan Cleat Design
The NEW Twist Foot Design from Ellis Patents provides reduced installation times and labour savings when installing cable cleats – traditionally the Vulcan cable cleat range required the additional inventory and purchase of fixing kits (cleat fasteners, washers and channel nuts) however with the new redesign the cable cleat is supplied pre-assembled for immediate site installation.
The increased speed of cable cleat installation is achieved by the integral Twist Foot base – just Fit, Twist & Tighten.
