Rodents not only present a significant risk to human health but also to the integrity and safety of buildings, equipment and cable networks. Electrical enclosures, network installations and trackside trunking provide warm, dry places for rodents to nest.

Rodents need to chew down their constantly growing teeth. Damage to electrical wiring and cables is most hazardous as it causes power shortages, equipment failure and even fires.

SUPERSEAL FR

SUPERSEAL FR is a flame retardant, halogen free brush strip seal with low smoke emission, excellent bend recovery, chemical and temperature resistance. Hardwearing filaments flex and adapt easily to irregular surfaces without impairing moving parts to protect against rodents, uncontrolled airflow, dirt, dust. noise and cold smoke.

SUPERSEAL FR is available with a choice of durable aluminium carriers. If something lighter is required it can be tailored to custom lengths, brush heights, fixing holes and carrier finishes.

Available with a choice of 180º, 45º or 90º aluminium carrier, the SUPERSEAL is available in cut sizes, with prefabricated fixing holes or slots and painted or anodised carrier finishes to suit application.

Trackside cable ducting and electrical junction boxes are warm dry places, with many points of access through which a determined rodent can squeeze and make a nest. Problems occur because rats love to chew and as they gnaw the plastic casing they can dangerously expose vital signal cables.

A break in signal control can cause whole sections of the railway to be out of use until the fault can be located and repaired. This results in expensive engineering costs and possible train delays.

Created and developed in close association with Railtrack, the RODENTBRUSH is specially designed to fill the spaces around cabling where rats and mice get in. RODENTBRUSH is flexible, flame retardant and offers the simplest solution to prevent cables from being chewed and subsequent signal failure;

• Simple to install and remove for cable maintenance
• Maintains airflow in the gap, avoiding cable overheating

RODENTBRUSH has been installed successfully by rail contractors across the UK and France, avoiding expensive engineering costs and delays. Trials show that rodents don’t like the feel of the filament on their faces and whiskers.

In trackside ducting, RODENTBRUSH fills the cavity and deters rodents from entering. In signal boxes and enclosures, RODENTBRUSH can be pushed into any gaps and spaces at the base of the compartment to act as a deterrent to inquisitive rats.

Unlike other forms of pest control, RODENTBRUSH can be easily removed for routine maintenance and then replaced foe ongoing cable protection. RODENTBRUSH can be exposed to all elements allowing air to circulate and water to drain away. The result is protected cables that allows the network trains to keep moving.

The RODENTBRUSH is a flexible twisted in wire brush with an insulate core, flame retardant fill material and protective moulded end caps.

Both variants have their benefits. The cold shrink sleeve can be assembled without the need for tools. The cold shrink-fit method can only be used outside of buildings, however the sleeve remains permanently elastic.

The hot shrink-fit method can be used on the outside or inside of buildings. A hot air gun or gas burner is required for assembly. The heat shrink sleeve remains rigid, but is gastight and waterright up to 2.5 bar.

Here are several site installation photographs of a cable sealing and substation asset protection project in the USA.

The MV medium voltage cables are installed 20 meters underground in a substation that is providing electrical power distribution to a subway metro station.

This is one of many sites where they have ongoing moisture problems associated with floodwater and environmental conditions.

Using FiloSeal+HD the client improved the environment inside the substation, reducing moisture, which was their electrical and substation protection objective.

One of the main issues with this project was cable separation of the 35kV power cables which are installed in triplex formation.

FiloSeal+HD uses hexagonal-shaped tubes to support and separate the MV cables, which is one of the many reasons, this Utility decided to select and specify Filoform.
