BS921 Matting – LV Switchboard Mats 15kV Tested | 650V Working Voltage
BS921
Electrical Insulating Matting Tested to BS921 British Standard
SM550 is a high quality fine ribbed rubber insulating matting which is formerly certified to meet British Standards BS921/1976 (Withdrawn in 2013). The BS921 matting is fully certified and tested to 15kV with a recommended safety working voltage of 650V.
Additionally the insulating matting has a fine ribbed, anti-slip surface pattern on one side and a cloth impression finish on the reverse side ensuring safe electrical working conditions for users.
SM550 insulating matting, tested to BS921, is available in stock lengths of 10m x 0.91m, 1m and 1.2m with a thickness of 9.5mm and on request can be produced in cut length sizes and a variety of colours or with flame retardant, low emission grade materials.
This electrical matting BS921 is high quality safety product, fully certified and tested to 15000v with a recommended safe working voltage of 650V.

British Standard BS921:1976
The British Standard BS921:1976 outlines the requirements for rubber switchboard matting for electrical purposes and specifies the construction materials, thickness, width and the testing conditions and results expected to meet the standard. BS921:1976 was withdrawn in January 2013 as it is conflicting with the current UK national standard of BS EN 61111:2009 for electrical insulating matting.
Although BS921 Standard is withdrawn, the electrical insulating matting which was previously manufactured to this standard is still available from Thorne & Derrick.
450V Protection | where 240V single phase switchgear is in service Thorne & Derrick recommend a 90% margin allowance by specifying and installing 450V protection – up to its maximum working voltage of 450V this provide correct insulating protection to people and plant as the electrical rubber insulating mats are testetd electrically up to 11,000V 11kV.
