ASTM D178 Insulating Matting 36kV Type 1 Class 4 Electrical Mats
Insulating Matting to ASTM D178 Standards
SM555 is a high quality fine ribbed rubber insulating matting which is fully certified to meet American National Standard ASTM D178.
The ASTM D178 Class 4 matting is fully certified and tested to 50kV with a recommended safety working voltage of 36kV.
Additionally the insulating matting has a fine ribbed, anti-slip surface pattern on one side and a cloth impression finish on the reverse side ensuring safe electrical working conditions for users.
SM555 insulating matting is available in stock lengths of 10m x 0.91m with a thickness of 12.7mm and on request can be produced in cut length sizes and a variety of colours or with flame retardant, low emission grade materials.
Thorne & Derrick, the UK’s leading Specialist Distributor of Electrical Safety Equipment, can also offer competitive price and short lead time delivery on IEC 61111 Matting, 11kV, 33kV and other grades and specifications of rubber manufactured electrical safety matting for insulation and worker protection on LV, MV and HV power systems.

This specification covers the acceptance testing of insulating rubber matting that are used as a floor covering for the personal protection of workers. The sheeting shall be made from any elastomer or combination of elastomeric compounds. Two types of electrical matting, differing in chemical and physical characteristics, are provided and are designated as Type I, which has been properly vulcanized, and Type II, which has one or more of the following special properties: (A) ozone resistance; (B) flame resistance; and (C) oil resistance. Five classes of matting, designated as Classes 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, are assigned according to electrical protection characteristics. When evaluated in accordance with the test procedures detailed herein, the matting shall adhere to the following property requirements: electrical properties such as phase-phase maximum use voltage, AC and DC proof-test voltages, AC and DC dielectric breakdown test voltages, and AC and DC electrode clearances; an physical and chemical properties such as moisture absorption, oil resistance, tensile strength, tension set, elongation, resistance to accelerated heat aging, and flame resistance.
