Thorne & Derrick, the UK Distributor for BAND-IT, have secured a new project specification and purchase order for the supply off 127,00 stainless steel cable ties to provide permanent management of LV power cables at a major new battery plant currently in construction in the UK.
Going through manufacture at BAND-IT in Chesterfield, UK the KE range of Ball-Lok stainless steel cable ties provide fast and reliable bundling of cables for maximum strength, reliability and retention of cables.
The corrosion and fire resistant stainless steel ties are typically used to bundle, tie or fasten cables in both onshore and offshore locations including industrial, substation and hazardous area locations, with potentially explosive atmospheres.
The BAND-IT IDEX electrical range of Cable Support & Management Systems are used extensively to manage cables in traditional (Oil & Gas), transitional (Renewable Energy) and emerging (Fuel Cell) markets where conventional non-metallic plastic type cable ties would overtime degrade and fail due to harsh industrial environment conditions.
The high performance cable ties also provide support and location of power, control and instrumentation cables to cable containment where resistance to chemical corrosion, UV and vibration is essential for long-term cable security and management.
BAND-IT worked closely with Thorne & Derrick to close-out the specification to competition and complete delivery of the Purchase Order on-time to allow the cable pulling and containment works schedule to continue without delay or disruption. The project was secured against intense commercial and technical competition from both established manufacturers and un-branded economy ranges.
Ball-Lok cable ties are available in two types: KE Premium ties and KT Standard ties – the smooth inside diameter of the KE ties further reduces the potential for damage to cabling or shielding during the tensioning process.

Here the MV Jointer, Steffan Evans from HVSM, is shown expertly stripping bonded semi-conductor screen from medium voltage power cables (20/22kV) prior to terminating the cable into Siemens NXAIR type Vacuum Circuit Breaker – the Ripley US02-7000 comfortably caters for the precision stripping of the bonded screen from the 400sqmm cable for preparation of the Raychem (Tyco) heat shrink termination to be installed.
The US02 Tool manufactured by Ripley Tools features a revolving ergonomic handle and accessible adjustment knobs for comfort and ease-of-use, reducing effort and potential strain for cable jointers performing repetitive shaving functions in the field.

The US02 Tool provides an exceptionally smooth finish and does not require lubricating grease as the integral wheels provide a sustained motion during the cable preparation process – the US02 has four settings on it that adjust the pitch as it winds down the cable and a stop that enables the jointer to provide a square cut to finish off. The settings are 0.5mm, 1mm, 1.5mm and 2mm.

During our monthly Distributor Review Meeting this morning with Kate Palmer-Randle we discussed further developing the Qualified Electrical Construction Contractor Accreditation (QECC) from 3M Electrical in the UK.
The Qualified Electrical Construction Contractor Programme (QECC) has been set up as a partnership designed to provide Jointer Training and valuable benefits to appointed 3M Electrical Contractor Partners.
As part of the QECC programme, contractors receive in-depth 3M Cold Shrink product and technology training, including theoretical training on 11kV, 22kV, 33kV, 52kV & 66kV Cable Accessories, including Joints & Terminations.
Once Certified the QECC contractor can apply for a 3M 20-year MV Product Warranty on completed projects which can be passed on to their client to offer them peace of mind on their investments and evidence Competency.
To date four companies have been geographically appointed, with a select number of new members set to qualify over the coming months.
