Installation & Clamping Of Nexans Euromold Compact Connectors Onto Mating Bushings – Part 4
February 3rd, 2020
Euromold Compact Connectors
Installation & Clamping Onto Their Mating Bushings MV HVÂ
In this Webisode Nexans will show you how to correctly install the Euromold Compact Connectors onto their mating bushings of MV HV electrical equipment including switchgear and transformers providing power distribution at 11kV/33kV.
It is important to install the separable connector on its mating bushing in the correct way.
After cleaning and lightly lubricating both the connector and the bushing interface, you can push the connector onto the bushing.
You can now insert the clamping screw into the threaded hole of the bushing. It is important to do this hand first, to correctly engage the threads and avoid cross-threading.
Then a torque wrench should be used to tighten the clamping screw. The tightening torque that needs to be applied is specified in the installation instructions that come with the kit.
What About the Nexans Stud-nut Version?
With the stud-nut you first need to install the stud into the threaded hole of the bushing interface before doing anything else. The installation instructions indicate which tools can be used and which torque needs to be applied. What to do next?

How do Nexans continue with the installation?
- Clean & lightly lubricate both the connector and the bushing interface, before pushing the connector onto the bushing
- DO NOT lubricate the threaded stud or any other threaded parts. The next step is to install the nut onto the threaded stud
- Screw it onto the screw by hand just like the installation of the clamping screw. Use a torque wrench to tighten the nut
- The tightening torque that needs to be applied is specified in the installation instructions that come with the kit
- Complete the instructions of the connector by installing the basic insulating plug and cap by following the steps in the installation instructions
Please Note: Only the components included in the kit should be used.

Bevelling The Edge Of The Core Insulation During Installation Of Nexans Euromold Connectors – Part 3

Euromold Connectors
Bevelling The Edge Of The Core Insulation During Installation
In this Webisode Nexans discuss bevelling or chamfering the edge of the core insulation during installation of the Euromold connectors.
Carefully read the installation instructions that come with the separable connector kit in order to perform the correct preparation for the specific cable you have at hand. For most cable types, the first steps are the removal of the cable outer sheath and removal of the semi-conductor screen.
Then remove the core insulation from the conductor. Standard core insulation removal tools will leave a sharp, 90° edge of the insulation. If not taken care of, this might damage the inside of the cable accessory during installation.
A sharp edge will also scrape off silicone grease, making it more difficult to install the cable adaptor for the Euromold connector.
So to avoid cable damage and to assure an easy slip-on of the cable accessory, the edge of the core insulation should be bevelled using an appropriate tool. Tools that provide a 45º chamfer are often used in the field, but tools that provide a smooth radius are even better.
For some conductor sizes, an installation tool is available to further ease the installation of the cable adaptor.

Different Insulating Epoxy Plugs & How To Install The Cap On Nexans Euromold Interface C Compact Connectors – Part 2

Nexans Euromold Interface C Compact Connectors
Different Insulating Epoxy Plugs & How To Install The Cap
In this Webisode Nexans will discuss the different Epoxy Plugs and how to install the cap on the Euromold Interface C Compact Connectors.
When your maximum medium voltage system is 24kV, you can see the Euromold BIPR insulating epoxy plug without locking point during the installation of the separable connector.
When the maximum medium voltage system is higher than 24kV, such as 33/36kV, you have to use the Euromold BIPA insulating plug. This epoxy plug has a metallic voltage detection point with a locking point on the top that must be connected to the cap.
- Start the installation of the cap with cleaning the inside of the cap and the outside of the Euromold connector and insulating plug
- Place the nylon vent rod along the insulating plug to exhaust air during cap assembly
- Then push the cap firmly over the connector and onto the insulating plug until it cannot advance any further. Only when use the BIPA insulating plug you have to press the centre of the cap onto the locking point until it snaps into place
- Press the cap on all sides to make sure it is well positioned over the connector. The pulling tab of the cap needs to be positioned downwards. Remove the nylon vent rod
- Re-press the centre of the cap onto the locking point to ensure it is still in place
Failure by the Jointer to observe the above procedure can lead to premature Partial Discharge development and consequently product failure of the Connector terminated onto the MV HV switchgear or transformer bushing interface.

Water Sealing, IP Rating & Temperature Range Of Nexans Euromold Connectors – Part 1

Euromold Connectors
Water Sealing, IP Rating & Temperature Range
In this Webisode Nexans answer frequently asked questions regarding water sealing, IP rating and temperature range of the Euromold connectors.
Are Euromold Connectors Watertight?
Yes, these EPDM connectors are completely watertight for the connection and cable termination of medium/high voltage power cables to electrical equipment including ring-main units, switchgear and transformers.
No ingress is possible at the bushing interface, rear interface or cable entrance of the Euromold connector.
Furthermore, the cable adaptor provides water sealing of the cable itself.
In the case of copper wire screen, water sealing mastic is applied on the cable jacket or sheath.
Therefore the IP rating of the Euromold connectors is IP67. This means that the screened separable connectors are completely dust tight and suitable for immersion in water of 1 metre depth or less.
The operating temperature range of these Euromold connectors is minus 60 degrees to 130 degrees Celsius.
However, due to the temperature range of an Epoxy Bushing the actual temperature range of the application is from minus 40 degrees to 115 degrees Celsius.
