Central Earth Terminal (CET)
Earthing System For SWA Wire Armoured Cables | Cable Glands & CETs
Thorne & Derrick International, based in the UK, continue to supply CET Central Earth Terminal cable gland plates to street lighting contractors for the termination and installation of BS5467 Low Voltage XLPE Insulated SWA Armoured 600V/1000V power cables.
The CET Earthing System is specified for the termination and bonding of all sizes of SWA armoured cables into confined spaces of street furniture – typical applications include street lighting columns, feeder pillars or traffic signs.
CET002 & CET003
The CET Central Earth Terminal is available in 2 designs – the CET002 and CET003 series of earth terminals offer an inherently strong and simple design which exceeds the BSI (Cable Gland) torque test, manufactured exclusively in zinc plated solid brass.
CEL offers a comprehensive range of earthing components that cater for all standard size armoured cables – the terminals are easy to use and install by the street lighting engineer.
All wire armour cable terminations are “made-off” from the front without the need of a spanner providing an effective earth bond.

CET002 Terminal
The Charles Endirect range of earthing terminals includes compression glands, CET’s, saddles, terminal blocks and gland plates for the earthing and bonding of all steel wire armoured (SWA) street lighting cables.

Cable Glands BW CW
The CET system is complemented by a full range of BW brass cable glands and CW brass glands to BS6121 and stand off gland plates as well as the solid brass earth blocks – EB42 – frequently used on street furniture backboards.

Fuses
CEL together with T&D stock and supply street lighting fuses to IEC 60269 (BS88), including LD (230V) and MD (400V) and LST (230V) versions of all current ratings.
These fuse sizes are designed to match up with CEL street lighting isolators and street lighting cut outs and can be supplied fitted to special order along with the pre-wiring of cable tails.

CET003 Terminal
CET (Central Earth Terminal) is the established street lighting industry standard for “stand-off” cable glanding and termination of XLPE insulated cables with steel wire armour (SWA) cables up to 70sqmm cross section area (circular stranded copper).
CET is an inherently strong and simple earthing design for single or multiple earth take-off points to suit all XLPE/SWA cables – designs allow splayed or bent steel wire armours using zinc plated solid brass terminal components.
SWA earthing glands are used by street lighting and traffic signal companies – the cable glands meet and exceed the BSI torque test for excellent electrical installation practices and earthing integrity.

CET003 Terminal

A comprehensive range of Earth Terminals for bent back or splayed configuration termination of the wire armour of street lighting cables – single, double or triple earth saddles are available to install CET002 and CET003 to the equipment backboard.
Stand-off cable gland plates are also available manufactured from 2mm thick brass with fixing gland hole options to suit the installation – complete range of Street Lighting Equipment available including isolators, cut-outs, feeder pillars and solar belisha beacons.

BW Cable Gland Selection Chart

Standard brass compression glands to BS6121.
Suitable for SWA cable, complete with brass lock nut and PVC shroud. Will accept cable with maximum overall diameter as follows:
- BW20 Cable Gland – 20.8mm
- BW25 Cable Gland – 27.2mm
- BW32 Cable Gland – 33.5mm
➡ The following table enables the selection of the correct BW Cable Gland to terminate and gland multicore (2, 3 or 4) core armoured power cables – the brass cable gland provides mechanical cable retention and termination of the steel wire armour up to 600V/1000 volts.
For the termination and cable crimping of the stranded copper cable conductors refer to the Cembre range of cable lugs.

Vulcan Cable Cleats With Twist Foot Design From Ellis Patents

Let Steve Walton (Chief Engineer) walk and talk you through the latest new product development by leading cable cleats manufacturer Ellis Patents – the established range of Vulcan+ cable cleats are available in a complete range of multiple sizes to suit trefoil, single, quad or bundled cables distributing electricity at LV (Low Voltage), MV (Medium Voltage) and HV (High Voltage).
The cable cleats provide a short circuit fault current protection level of 132kA when spaced at 300mm according to IEC61914 calculations.
Vulcan Cleats
The NEW Twist Foot Design from Ellis Patents provides reduced installation times and labour savings when installing cable cleats – traditionally the Vulcan cable cleat range required the additional inventory and purchase of fixing kits (cleat fasteners, washers and channel nuts) however with the new redesign the cable cleat is supplied pre-assembled for immediate site installation.
The increased speed of cable cleat installation is achieved by the integral Twist Foot base – just Fit, Twist & Tighten.
Twist Foot offerings come pre-loaded/ assembled with an isolation plate (integral barrier to mitigate bi-metallic corrosion issues) and cleat fixings to allow rapid installation of cable cleats in to standard channel (41×41 & 41×21).
No more dropped objects when installing Cable Cleats and Fixings in hazardous environments.

The twist-foot fixing mechanism operates by simply placing the Vulcan+ cleat into the channel and twisting it 90 degrees. It is suitable for trefoil cables ranging in diameter from 19 to 58mm, and single cables between 30 and 104mm.

CMP Cable Cleats NEW | Quadruplex Cables & Quad Formation Cables

CMP have developed a new quad cable cleats range that have been designed, constructed, tested and third party certified in accordance with IEC 61914:2015.
Cable cleats within the quad range manufactured by CMP are designed for a variety of industries including the data centre, energy, utility and rail market where high performance and a compact design of cable cleat is critical for the retention of cables in quadrafoil formation in the event of a short circuit fault situation.
‘Saturn’ quad cable cleats are designed to safely restrain single cables in quad (or quadrafoil) formation without sustaining damage to the cables or cable management system in the event of short circuit fault conditions.

Single Cables In Quad Formation
For quadruplex cable, CMP has developed the QPSS cable cleat, with an integrated C-Clamp and bolt, which provides installers with versatility of installation.
The QPSS type of cable cleat has a high short circuit rating of 135kA and can be installed in a range of applications where quadruplex cable is utilised, including data centres.
