Cembre MT-TD and MT-GC connectors are high voltage copper through connectors designed to joint, splice and connect conductors in high voltage cable applications up to 33kV – the high voltage connectors are manufactured from high purity copper, annealed and tin plated and compatible with both Cold Shrink and heat shrink cable joints.

Cembre MT-GC connectors feature a solid stop (“blocked”) which forms a moisture barrier between the two conductors being jointed, this prevents the migration of oils or greases, which may be present, in one cable contaminating the other cable – applications include transition cable joints or splices where existing Paper Insulated Lead Covered (PILC) are jointed onto new polymeric (XLPE EPR) insulated cables up to 33kV.

Cembre MT-TD connectors are unblocked and are suitable for joining cables of the same insulation type – this includes polymeric-to-polymeric type straight through connections on Low Voltage (LV), Medlium Voltage (MV) and High Voltage (HV) cables up to 33kV with XLPE or EPR type insulation.

Cable Connectors

11kV PILC Cables – paper insulated cables impregnated with oil should be transition jointed using “blocked” type Cembre MT-GC connectors to prevent contamination of polymeric cables when connecting to XLPE EPR insulated cable.

When jointing XLPE to PILC cables at medium voltage, 11kV/33kV, it is recommended to use “blocked” type connectors when splicing and jointing stranded copper conductors on transition applications where paper-to-polymeric cables are to be jointed – for dissimilar type conductors and connecting copper to aluminium cables a shearbolt connector can be used.
