Cable Joints
Nexans GTS1 type MV cable joints are straight heat shrink joints for jointing single core polymeric insulated medium voltage cables with extruded easy strip conductive screen or bonded extruded conductive screen. Nexans GTS1 heat shrink cable joints are fully screened, submersible and can be directly buried into cable trench.
Nexans cable joints are available in both heat shrink and cold shrink technologies for jointing and repairing medium/high voltage cables up to 33kV – single core and 3 core cable joints kits are available for MV-HV cables with paper or polymeric insulation, copper wire or copper screen and armoured/unarmoured construction. The cable joints accommodate both shearbolt cable connectors or crimp connectors.

Transition Cable Joints
Nexans GTM3.1 type MV cable joints are transition cable joints using heat shrink technology for jointing three core paper cables (PILC draining and non-draining) to three core polymeric cables (XLPE). Nexan’s GTM3.1 heat shrink cable joints are designed for use with paper insulated belted or screened cables with a common lead sheath and are fully screened, submersible and can be directly buried into cable trench.

Cable Terminations
Nexans MONO type MV cable terminations are heat shrink terminations consisting of a single-piece heat shrink tube – the anti track tube features integral stress control co-extruded into the heat shrink tubing suitable for terminating single core polymeric insulated cables, such as XLPE or EPR, with working voltage classes of 11kV, 24kV and 33kV.
Both Nexans MONOi (Indoor Termination) and MONOe (Outdoor Termination) contain sufficient material to terminate 3 single core cables i.e. 3 phase cable termination kits.
Nexans terminations are available in both heat shrink, cold shrink and slip-on type technologies for terminating cables into switchgear, transformers and pole-mounted applications – single core termination kits are available for MV cables with copper wire or copper screen and armoured/unarmoured construction. The cable termination accommodates both shearbolt cable lugs or crimp lugs.

The following post shows the range of Euromold Connectors which are suitable for and manufacturer approved for use with Ormazabal medium/high voltage equipment bushings according to IEC 50181. BS EN 50181:2010 is the industry standard for plug-in type bushings above 1kV up to 52kV and from 250A to 2,50kA for MV-HV switchgear and transformers.

EN 50181 IEC Bushing Types
Ormazabal recommends the use of Euromold connectors for the termination of MV-HV cables as they have been tested in the Ormazabal CGMCOSMOS system cubicles.
CGMCOSMOS is part of the Ormazabal Medium Voltage Switchgear Secondary Distribution range – a fully gas-insulated modular and compact (RMU) system up to 24kV.
3 different types of EN 50181 (IEC) bushing types that are manufactured in epoxy resin and conform to the dielectric and partial tests.
• Plug-in Bushing up to 250 A
• Plug-in Bushing up to 400 A
• Screw-in Bushing up to 630 A
MV-HV bushings are located in the cable compartment or can also be placed on the side of the cubicles for direct supply to the main busbar via plug-in or screw-in connectors rated current greater than 400A or short-circuit current equal to or higher than 16kA.
250AÂ plug-in cable connectors (straight or elbow type for rear exit of cable) in outputs to transformer (cable compartment) for fuse protection functions and shielded connectors for circuit-breaker protection functions.

In What Situations Would I Require A Hazardous Area Cable Joint?

Hazardous Area Cable Joints
This video by 3M Electrical shows in what situations you would require a hazardous area joint such as 3M Scotchcast LVI/3 for jointing power cables in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas and
potentially explosive atmospheres according to the ATEX Directive.
3M LVI-3/x hazardous area resin cable joint kits are designed to be used for multi-core, armoured polymeric insulated, low voltage energy cables.
The 3M video explains how hazardous area cable joints are designed for applications where the cable joints must be flame retardant, halogen free and hydro carbon resistant.
3M have been supplying cable accessories and electrical insulating Scotchast resins for use in hazardous areas for more than 25 years and have carried out extensive research into the effects of hydrocarbons in chemical solvents and resin encapsulants.
3M products have been successfully installed in areas such as mines and quarries, underground applications, petrochemical sites and offshore areas where there is a risk of flame or explosion due to the atmospheric presence of flammable gases.
A specialised joint shell which is flame retardant, hydro carbon resistant and halogen free is filled with a 3M 1402FR resin which has been highly modified by the inclusion of various chemical additives. These additives make the resin flame retardant, halogen free and virtually unaffected by immersion and hydro carbons or chemical solvents.
