Ripley Tools has launched three new tools for safe and efficient cable semi-con scoring, part of its SCS Series. Ripley SCS is a general purpose semi-con scoring tool for most medium voltage cable constructions and is equipped with a standard cable guide. The adjustable semi-con scoring tool removes easy strip type semi-con screens from HV power cables, this includes 11kV and 33kV power cables.
Between them, the new cable jointing tools are capable of precisely scoring medium-voltage cables from 0.31′′ to 2.96′′ (8 to 75mm), eliminating the need for traditional, higher-risk blades making them perfect for high voltage power cable preparation prior to jointing and terminating and easily mounts on the cable.

The first Jointing Tool in the series is the compact and adjustable SCS semi-con scoring tool, which precisely scores the semi-con to ease its removal while protecting the underlying insulation. The SCS works on medium voltage 5kV to 35kV cables with semi-con diameters of 0.31′′ – 2.00′′ (8 to 51mm) and is able to perform longitudinal, spiral and calibrated square cuts.

Ripley SCS Adjustable Cable Semi-Con Scoring Tool (Compact & User Friendly)
It’s the SCS tool’s micro-adjustable blade depth that ensures accuracy so cable insulation is not damaged and the innovative slide tray keeps the cable square to the cutting head for precision.
The UtilityTool SCS’s design eases operation for cable engineers. It opens and snaps on the cable quickly and simply. Plus, it can work in a small envelope of space, especially on large cable sizes and covers the range of both the BP1A and BP2A.
For highly bowed or curved cables, the SCS V2 has been created to give engineers enhanced control. Its narrow cable guide is suitable for sheathed and jacketed 3 phase assemblies.
Completing the trio is the SCS Max, an extended version of the SCS to make precision cuts on large diameter power cables with strippable semi-con. The tool is designed for cables with a diameter of 1.77′′ to 2.96′′ (45 to 75mm) and it can operate within a 4′′ (101.6 mm) envelope on larger cables.

Alroc manufacture a range of cable jointing tools for the removal and stripping of outer cable sheath, semi-conductor screen and insulation from LV, MV, HV and EHV power cables – this includes precision engineered manual and motorised cable installation and preparation tools for Power, Transmission & Distribution cables.
The ORACL by Alroc enables the cable jointer or user to longitudinally score the peelable semiconductive layer from medium/high voltage cables (typically 33kV) in order to peel it off carefully by hand – this is a key stage of MV HV cable preparation prior to the installation of Power Cable Accessories including joints, terminations and connectors.
The Screen Scoring Tool has an adjustable scoring depth of four different lengths (0.4 / 0.6 / 0.9 / 1.1 mm) and is lightweight in design.

Improve reliability and safety at the same time; take the knife out of your hand and put the Ripley Tools in your hand.
Utility Tool from Ripley offer two by two and four by four cable strippers with bushings. The bushings on each side are specifically designed for the conductor sizes you need. “Take about a twelve to 14 inch cut of all those sizes, and send them off to Ripley tools to get your specifically sized bushing.”

“To use these tools, just run it down to your spot, I have my hand as a stopper. Perfect cut. No scoring. Safe. Good to go.”

For those that need more adjustability on the system, the WS 71 and WS 72 Series provides mid span. Just tighten it down and again, run it right down. If you want to take the WS 71 and 72 and make them into one tool, take the US07-7000.
This is new tool from Ripley is capable of doing end strips and also your midspan strips all in one tool. “We used to have two tools for your chamfering. Now we have one tool.”
We also have a US10 7000 which performs a 30 degree chamfer, and then we have a US10 7001 which performs a 45 degree chamfer. See below for further product specification.

The PICOUP 250 and PICOUP 400 2 in 1 hydraulic cable spiking and cable cutting tools are used to check for and ensure the absence of voltage on LV MV HV underground power cables.
After the cable spiking process is complete, these PICOUP tools supplied by Thorne & Derrick can also be used to cut the cable. These tools offer total security to the user during application according to NFC 18510 standards.

- 2 actions combined into one single tool (spiking and cutting)
- Enables the user to limit any resulting short circuit to a single-phase / ground fault when spiking multi-core cables. This cause any protective devices to trip before a 2 or 3 phases fault can be created
